Oh, it can definitely be deceiving at times! What you need to look for is the tail fin. If it is ululating up and down, that is a dolphin or a whale. If it is ululating side-to-side, that is a shark, which undulates its tail side to side like any other fish, which is what a shark is. A dolphin is a mammal, and it's tail fin always undulates up and down.

I live in Dallas, Texas, where Summers get well over 100°, no problems at all! All seams are quadruple overlaps, stitched, and glued. Pretty much "bombproof" in my opinion. Of course, I only use that metaphor illustratively, Lol. I know many people with boats over 10 years old! Sea Eagles three year warranty is top of the industry. @bgaviator it's worth a try, I have never used one myself. It does have a drop stitch floor according to their website, which will give it a good amount of stiffness. Won't be totally like the higher end Sea Eagles, but it will get you out on the water cheaply, and it will give you an opportunity to figure out if investing more in paddling is something that you want to do.

I have never had need for one myself, but I have heard from others that they are used very effectively! For being off grid for extended periods of time, I think it would be a great idea.

You might want to consider the Sea Eagle travel canoe as well. I have a review on that boat coming out very shortly. Bottom line, it's a very nice paddling canoe that will certainly enable kneeling while paddling, or even standing. It's all drop stitch performance is truly like a rigid canoe! I would be very interested to know how you feel about the packing up and folding of the travel canoe as some reviewers on the Sea Eagle website say it is quite difficult. Addressing points raised by reviewers (especially the less positive ones) would help those of us contemplating what to get as you obviously point out pros and cons, so we can trust you.

It is very large and a bit more difficult to fold up than the Explorer kayak, which you simply roll up like a burrito. That is my favorite. The travel canoe you more or less have to fold, and if you are trying to get it back in the original bag, it will take some effort. If all you need to do is fold it three ways and put it in the back of your pick up, that's not too bad at all.

Hi 👋 there! Some great questions! Thanks for watching and commenting. Let me first say that I paddled for years in one-piece hard shell kayaks and loved them. The thing I didn't love was storing them, transporting them & securing them when I traveled so they didn't get stolen. When I switched to Sea Eagle inflatables, I got rid of ALL the one-piece hard shell kayaks! With the 10psi floors on the Explorer, FastTrack & PaddleSki or the all 10psi hulls on the RazorLite, EZLite10 or the FastCat12 - I did not feel that I was sacrificing any performance. Definitely not squishy when paddling, they paddle very rigidly and with speeds similar to hard shell kayaks. That 10 psi drop stitch floor is crucial to the hulls performance. Now, for the kneeling question. Will you be doing this solo? Or, will you be paddling tandem and expecting to kneel? If solo - The 380X will give you enough room to just shift from the rigid high back black seat into the knee paddling position. You can even stand in the 380X for maximum position options. I much prefer the high back seats to the inflatable seats. If you plan to paddle tandem and want to kneel, I would go with the largest Explorer - 420X. I have never made kneeling and paddling a practice, but I'm sure it won't be a problem. Bottom line - the 10 psi floors and the full 10psi hulls on the RazorLite & EZLite10 don't even REMOTELY perform like the 1.5 psi boats that you have been using. No comparison at all, that is why high end Sea Eagle inflatables are so popular. Let me know if you have any other questions - I put some helpful links below. @@KayakCliff Thanks so much for your comprehensive reply. I would be paddling with hubby and our smallish dog, so I think looking at boat sizes the larger version sounds like the best idea. The information on the paddling experience is super helpful, thank you!! The reason I want to know about kneeling is really just to be able to change position as I have so far not found I am truly comfortable either on a canoe bench or in a kayak seat. Part of this is obviously not being used to it, but I also have a knee injury that limits what I can do and for how long. Falling in love with paddle sports has brought some complications to my life 😂😂😂. I do so love my paddle board for this very reason but the rivers are just not deep enough to be safe unless you kneel. Now here is a question I hadn't thought of. My paddle board came with a kayak seat. How would that fare going down a river? I have not tried the seat at all yet. I have been binge watching your channel as you give such good insights and comments. Keep up the great work and thanks so much for such a prompt and detailed response. @DaleswayPrintTech I do see some people using kayak seats that are designed for their paddle boards. I have tried it myself, but found it to be a little awkward. Give it a try, you might like it. It would certainly facilitate shifting from sitting to kneeling relatively easily. My favorite thing to do on a paddleboard for a seat is to have a square hardside cooler that you can sit on at an elevated position, then stand up easily. A lot of people do this as well, as long as it is a stable paddle board.

The pump I used in the video was the pump that sea eagle has had out for several years now. They just replaced it with this model which I just received and I'm about to try it out. I'm told with the lithium battery, it is much better and much stronger, the last one was awesome, so I am excited to try it out. Hi Bob, Yes, you slide the foot brace rods through both holes on the black receiver mounted to the boat hull. Then take the end of the rod with the black 90 degree plastic finger, then rotate it downwards to lock it into place in the receiver. Should rotate down pretty easily if you have the rod fully inserted. Let me know if you figured it out!

@@KayakCliff thanks ! I think i got it. I may modify the lead edge of the receiver slightly at maybe a 45 degree angle. currently it strikes that corner a little too abruptly. So much so i thought it was going to perhaps cause it to snap. Thanks for your help !!

@bobrich1950 Just keep in mind that with use and getting wet, it will slip in easier…… Don’t want to alter too much,then have it be too loose once wet and broken in

Hi there, Eric - thank you for watching, subscribing and commenting! Great question! The razor light is no more tippy than any other 28 inch wide touring style kayak. People that comment negatively, have likely never been in that style of boat before. I have been paddling it for, three years now and have never tipped over even going through heavy class one Rapids loaded down with 70 pounds of camping gear. The razor light is my favorite kayak by far 6 foot, 190 pounds. I think if you're 250 pounds, it's a different story though. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions! @KayakCliff thanks for the info and the unbelievably fast reply!! Really trying to decide between the Razorlite and FastTrack. However, I am looking at the 473rl, and the 465ft. Need it for the family so a single seater won't work. I was also looking at the Aquaglide Chelan 155. I like it alot but people seem to lean more towards the Sea Eagle. I guess they are that much better? Hard decision made harder due to price! Can't just buy and hope to like it.

There aren't as many videos on the 473 and 465 for some reason 😞. I did watch your videos on both though, as well as the 420. Thank you for your videos, best I've seen on these kayaks, BY FAR.

@EricGonzalez-bd1qd I have found sea eagle to be top quality! They've been making inflatable kayaks for 50 years now! They also come with a three-year warranty and a generous return period, as long as the product is still sellable. Their customer service is top-notch too! The RazorLite is very stable in my opinion. Been paddling it for 3 years now and never a tip over, that’s even with 70 lbs. of camping gear in it over strong Class 1 rapids.

Hi there Spidey! There is tons of room in the RazorLite and more room to fully extend your legs in the foot pegs if you are especially tall. You can adjust the seat rear wards by loosening the straps to even give you a little more room. Easier to get in and out of the RazorLite, plus you can swing your legs over the side and sit “side saddle” if you want to get something that is stored behind you. The Pakayak is a great boat if you want a true sit inside touring kayak. You can get more comfort in the RazorLite without sacrificing cut speed. Oh yes, at 6 foot six, you would definitely be without legroom in the Pakayak bluefin. You will be a good fit in the razor light, if you need to slide the seat further back by loosening the straps, you can do that as well. Let me know how it works for you!

@KayakCliff went out on the 393rl this weekend and it's a great fit. It's a little tippy (probably more so because my high center of gravity), but it's pretty manageable. I am quite happy with it and would recommend for anyone else that is too tall for other portable options.

@@KayakCliff oh interesting, I appreciate the feedback. I have a chinese clone of the original razorlight (basic strap footrest, 10psi) and I've been quite happy with it's performance but I'm tired of pumping it in the heat and having to deal with drying it more at home. I also just don't trust it to not fail at some point as I see small cracks at fold points, and have to worry about running into things. I'd love a modular but the cost of a pakayak.. ouch.. I was hoping that the oru beach lt would give me similar performance as my inflatable as I just keep to flat water anyway.

@d7359 Unless I am traveling by airplane and have to do it manually, I only use a battery powered pump. It is life-changing. Pumps up the boat in a matter of minutes and no sweat. I know countless people that have had sea Eagles greater than 10 years.

I watched a video on the razorlite current model and I can see several ways it is better than my clone. I'm sure mine actually has a few years left in it too. I've just started folding it at a different starting spot to avoid wearing the one area out. I will probably wait until I can come across a modular design that is more reasonably priced. Cheers

@d7359 I actually rarely roll mine up like they originally came, because I'm not traveling with them. I just fold them into thirds and throw it in the back of my truck and then put it on the shelf in my garage. Have a great one!

You miss the point......It's not a high-performance touring kayak, where bracing against foot pegs and thigh braces is extremely useful. It's more analogous to a truck or a big SUV. If you want foot pegs, they have them and you can install them separately. They work great as well from what I'm told. I have never felt the need to have them in the explorer. They are very nice boats. At 58 - 59 lbs. they are heavy, but not any different than any other 14’ rotomolded plastic touring kayak. Pakayak has reduced the weight of their Bluefin and it is now only 49 lbs! I might sell mine too and get the new lighter model.

I am 6 foot with a 34 inch inseam. My feet are flat up against the baldhead and I guess I fit perfectly. Anybody any taller with a longer inseam might have some difficulty.

Hi 👋 - On this current model I have, it came already installed by the previous owner. On my two previous boats, I installed it myself. Very easy. Just make sure to screw the transducer where Whaler recommends based on your model and make sure you drill proper holes and fully seal with 3M 5200 with a full cure before using. Hope this helps!

Hi there, that trip down class 1 rapids did not pan out, but with the many times I have had the boat out in varying conditions over the first month of use, I think it will do fine down Class 1 rapids. I would make sure you are not over loaded and that your weight is not bow heavy, position yourself as far back towards the stern as the seat straps will all, while still being able to touch the foot pegs. Without drain plugs, if a little too much water comes over the bow, no problem, just pull ashore and flip and drain. Even if you swamp the EZLite, it will still be paddleable. I have had the RazorLite over Class 1 rapids many times and it does awesome. With the V floor, if you get high center on a boulder I would imagine your stability will be greater than when you do that on the RazorLite, especially if you can position that boulder on the flat side of the V. The nice thing about the RazorLite is you can paddle extremely effectively with no skeg, that is my favorite way to paddle the RazorLite, which makes it an awesome boat for shallow rivers. If you are in the EZLite, I highly recommend purchasing the small skeg that Sea Eagle offers, that is the only skeg I use on the EZLite10 and it works very well! Hi there, I think it would do well out in the open sea, with rolling swells. You would not want to be out there where waves are breaking though. I have had it out in very rough water on lakes, but never in the open sea. It has always surprised me and done very well!
